Day 1:

Your 3-day gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest begins with an early morning departure from your accommodation in the nearby town or city. You’ll embark on a scenic drive to the park, enjoying the beautiful landscapes and rural villages along the way. Upon arrival at Bwindi, you’ll check into your lodge and  relax and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in a community or cultural activity. These include visits to  the Batwa pygmies community, who are the indigenous people of the area. This experience will provide insight into the local traditions, way of life, and conservation efforts in the region.

Day 2:

Today is the highlight of your gorilla trekking safari as you embark on the thrilling adventure. Here you will encounter the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced guides who will provide important information about gorilla etiquette and safety.

After the briefing, you’ll be assigned a gorilla family group and begin your trek into the dense and lush forest. The duration and difficulty of the trek can vary depending on the location of the gorilla family you are assigned to, but it generally ranges from 2 to 6 hours of hiking. The trek itself is an incredible experience, as you navigate through the thick foliage, listening to the sounds of the forest, and keeping an eye out for other wildlife along the way.

Once you locate the gorilla family, you’ll spend a precious hour in their presence, observing their behavior. This one hour gives you interactions to the gorillas and learn about their unique bond they share. This up-close encounter with the gorillas is an indescribable experience that will leave you in awe of these gentle giants and foster a deep appreciation for the conservation efforts aimed at protecting them.

After your encounter, you’ll trek back to the starting point and return to your lodge. Here you can relax, share stories of the day’s adventure, and reflect on the incredible privilege of witnessing these endangered creatures in their natural habitat.

Day 3:

On your final day, you’ll have the opportunity to explore more of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and its surrounding areas. You can choose from a variety of activities to suit your interests and energy levels.

Options for the day may include:

• A nature walk through the forest, where you can discover the diverse flora and fauna that call this ecosystem home. With knowledgeable ranger guides, you’ll learn about the medicinal properties of various plant species. You will also spot different bird species, and possibly encounter other primates like the black-and-white colobus monkeys as well as L’Hoest’s monkeys.
• Guided forest hike to one of the nearby waterfalls, where you can relax and soak in the tranquility of the surroundings while enjoying the refreshing spray of the cascading water.

Alternatively, you may choose to engage in a community-based activity. This includes as a visit to a local school, a handicraft workshop, or a cultural performance by the Batwa community.

After lunch, you’ll bid farewell to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and begin your journey back.  As you travel back, you’ll be reflecting on the incredible experiences and memories you’ve created during your gorilla trekking safari.
